Rocky

CLARA is a pet friendly corporation. Meaning our pets have been very friendly so far towards our guests as well as each other, if we exclude the fact that one of our birds might have been horrifically murdered by the other. We are also pet friendly in the other meaning of the phrase, i.e. we the company and it’s members are friendly towards pets and welcome them to our daily strifes.

Rocky is not our pet, he belongs to our neighbors. Still, he’s a common visitor and receives the odd petting and playing from us, a welcome distraction from the magic machines. That’s right, our computers are magic, I might tell you more about that later.

Him losing hair, drooling or the occasional vomiting doesn’t make us love him any less. We realize his lack of control and awareness as he’s just a dog and only capable of a certain amount of education. His intrusiveness every time we cook something or hold a ball or a toy of some kind is immediately forgiven, all we ask of him is to keep open his cute puppy eyes and not eat us.

The Red Couch

We’ve got class and we’ve got style. Our colors are red, white and black, so we try and keep our possession within that design frame. From the foundation of the company only one furniture has moved with us, only one has been with us from the start. It’s our couch. We love our couch.

Even though it’s size is incredebly unfortunate for napping, it only increases creativity and original “problem solving”. You really master your body and it’s limits by succumbing to sleep in this couch. But although it’s main use has been in napping, it is also very suitable for simple sitting. It even holds 3 people at once which can be quite convenient when more than one person desire some sittage.

This couch is also free of prejudice, as it has no sense of being for it is an object with no consciousness, so all are free to enjoy the sofa. We hope it will live long, still no consciousness, and serve our leisurely needs as we’ll add to its company soon enough. No need for jealousy though, there’ll always be plenty of asses to support within CLARA.

More about dress code and rules

We are a young company, both in regards of when it was founded but also to age of employees so we haven’t gotten around to make a cohesive set of rules regarding behavior, general conduct and appearance. We’ve tried to have an “everything goes until it doesn’t” kind of attitude, this gives an appropriate room to fail, which we believe is a good thing, and stimulates creativity.

We haven’t stumbled upon a lot of thing that doesn’t go, the most entertaining and successful inductions to our days at the office are these things that are borderline appropriate so we might be on to something. We believe in organic growth and that goes as well in regards to the company culture. It’s all about watering the seeds and cutting the weed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weed if you were wondering about any ambiguity.

People do their best work when they don’t have to worry about how they are or how they have to be. So to boost creativity and reduce unnecessary worrying we just don’t care and don’t expect anyone else to. It’s the best way for different people to get along.

KEG

We like Beer. So putting up a keg at the office was just a matter of time really, this turned out to be quite the success. We now save us the trouble of having to visit the liquor store as frequently because these keg hold a lot of beer within them. You can notice this quite clearly when you compare a keg to for example a glass of wine, or a human head.

Friday is the most frequent day on the bar, Thursdays and Saturdays follow. As beer lovers this helps us drink quality beer instead of cheap junk can beer. Our parties also become much more simple to plan and when we have company we always make a good impression. Especially with the ladies [ladies to be pronounced with the voice of Barry White and the accent of Jacques Cousteau].

I’ll explain later how we love the kegs so much that we give them names before we drink them. And then bury them in a grave of rose pedals and bunny farts.

Business Casual Fridays

I’ve seen movies where companies try to improve their morale by having casual Fridays, this was usually depicted negatively in the movies, as having one day a week casual, loose and fun one can make the deduction that the other days of the week are formal, strict and unfun [a word I now just made up].

So for us, a loose, fun informal company, we might be losing something from all the other places. We won’t compromise on the fun and loose aspect but the formal thing might be worth a try! Enter: Business Casual Fridays.

There is no code or mandatory involvement. It usually has about 50-80% participation, but it’s fun to make a change and feel pretty. We then balance it out with wifebeater Wednesdays, so if you want to come visit, you’ll know what to expect.

The story of Andri

We used to have two birds which didn’t seem to get along so well. One bird is called Andri, the other bird is deceased, foul play is suspected. Now Andri is an only bird. The death of his companion has earned him much greater attention and luxury. This only works in the animal kingdom, as death amongst humans is usually followed by sadness, a sense of loss and even jail time if the death was not natural or accidental.

Andri has his cage all to himself. no more bickering about the fresh batch of yummy seed sticks and the occasional grape. The death of his only companion has improved his quality of life to great extent. Does that make him evil, or just a bird?
Perhaps one doesn’t exclude the other.

Something tells me this isn’t the last we’ll hear of our evil canary

Like

We don’t need to stamp a lot of things. Usually it’s government documents, tax something somethings or big deals worth a lot of money that either makes or breaks our company. These corporations usually expect a certain amount of professionalism and tradition. This is a golden opportunity for us to change that.

For those who don’t use Facebook this might seem odd, though they must understand the gesture of a thumbs up. What might they think of this? Perhaps they’ll mistake it for our company logo, I would hope so, that couldn’t be reason to tear up the document enraged by this tomfoolery. That’s probably not gonna be an issue, I mean, who doesn’t have Facebook?

For those who have Facebook, and get the reference, must appreciate this. I mean, it’s the little things in life. If they think it’s silly so be it, it’s not like we’re putting random Chuck Norris quotes on their invoices; that goes on our payslips.

The Coalition

I think it is time for us, the team @CLARA to have a haven, a place express our selves completely independent from the company and its front.

This is the place to tell about our ventures, our experiments and our mischievous deeds.

Welcome to The Coalition!
